What excites you most about being an IBCLC?

When I visibly see a dyad overcome an issue. There's nothing more fulfilling than watching parents relax and gain confidence.

In what types of settings have you supported patients in lactation?

Outpatient with the WIC & Nutrition Program and in private home-visiting practice

What makes up your family (people & pets)?

It's my spouse and I. We have 4 girls and since I didn't have any boys we got a boy dog!

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?

I love learning about any an all holistic healing. If I'm reading a book, it's probably about herbs or homesteading. When I'm not at work, I enjoy gardening and getting outdoors with my girls. We like to dance, go to the park, ride bikes, get to the beach when it's warm, and just spend time adventuring as a family.

What state do you reside in?

Florida

When did you know you wanted to become an IBCLC?

In 2020 I was working as a peer counselor at WIC in a small town. Clients continued to seek my help for things outside my scope because of the lack of access to lactation support in our area. Covid was in full swing, and they had nowhere else to turn.

Why did you become an IBCLC?

I knew my community deserved more, and that drove me to learn all I could.

What do you wish you could tell every parent (that they would actually do) and why?

You're not just enough, you're everything to your infant. No matter what your journey looks like, slow down. Take in all that love, and just enjoy what is rather than worrying about what isn't.
