What excites you most about being an IBCLC?

Getting to see babies every day! No, seriously, it's combining my love for education and research into one. I love maternal and child health, so my heart is constantly jumping out of my chest at the sight of an infant, a pregnancy or a breastfeeding family.

In what types of settings have you supported patients in lactation?

NICU (Level 4), Hospital Birth Center, Outpatient, and Private Practice

What makes up your family (people & pets)?

I have what sometimes feels like a pet tiger, but just a Tabby is all she is. Aside from her, my family is huge. I am an auntie (only one sibling). My family is everything to me!

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?

Reading, visiting the mountains, dancing, and spending time with friends and family

Please share any additional education or certifications you have.

Master of Public Health

What state do you reside in?

North Carolina

When did you know you wanted to become an IBCLC?

It was definitely an "Aha" moment. I just knew - went from graduate studies directly into my pathway to lactation program.

Why did you become an IBCLC?

To break barriers within human milk feeding and to fulfill my calling to educate, promote, support and empower families.

What do you wish you could tell every parent (that they would actually do) and why?

Believe in yourself and "take two"...parenthood is hard, but you have to practice good self care in order to make it. I'd tell this to every parent and hope that they'd do it because it's simply necessary.
