Please share anything you'd like from your own personal breastfeeding experience.

I have breastfed my two daughters for 1.5 years each but faced challenges during my journey at the initial stage. I got help from Lactation Consultants to guide me in reaching my personal breastfeeding goals successfully. It is now my turn to pay it forward!

What excites you most about being an IBCLC?

Helping mothers successfully breastfeed their children and the patient satisfaction coming from compassionate care. Helping families during their most vulnerable time is an honor. I feel privileged to hear their stories and to be a small part of their breastfeeding journey.

In what types of settings have you supported patients in lactation?

Hospital, NICU, Outpatient, Private Practice, Teleconsults, Teaching Prenatal Breastfeeding classes, Home visits, Phone Consults

What makes up your family (people & pets)?

My husband and two daughters. Big extended family on my maiden as well as In-laws side.

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?

Spending time with my family, catching up with friends, listening to music, organizing my house, reading my favorite books and articles, and connecting with nature.

Please share any additional education or certifications you have.

Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Currently pursuing my Master's in Healthcare Administration. It is never too late to go back to school to pursue your interests.

What state do you reside in?

When did you know you wanted to become an IBCLC?

During my own breastfeeding journey, when I got help to navigate and reach my goals successfully. The complexities of the human body continue to amaze me!

Why did you become an IBCLC?

I had some difficulty breastfeeding when I had my first baby and was surprised it was as easy as I had anticipated it would be. After my experience, I was determined to learn everything I could about breastfeeding so I could help other mothers. I truly am grateful for the opportunity to work as a Lactation Consultant and help breastfeeding families in any way I can.

What do you wish you could tell every parent (that they would actually do) and why?

Breastfeeding is learning for both you and your baby. Take a virtual prenatal breastfeeding class in the comfort of your home. Put baby skin to skin after giving birth and offer the breast so your baby can frequently practice this new skill. A good latch is the key to comfortable and easy breastfeeding. Reach out to a lactation consultant to help you get off to a good start!
