Please share anything you'd like from your own personal breastfeeding experience.

I breastfed both of my babies and am so glad that I did.

What excites you most about being an IBCLC?

Seeing parents connecting with their babies, reaching their goals, and growing babies.

In what types of settings have you supported patients in lactation?

Hospital and outpatient.

What makes up your family (people & pets)?

My husband and I are the proud parents of two sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and four amazing grandchildren. Our "nest" is not empty though.  Hercules, our Great Pyrenees, promises he'll never leave us!

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?

I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling, and volunteering as the Director of the Women's Health Free Clinic in my community.

Please share any additional education or certifications you have.

I am a Registered Nurse, Certified Childbirth Educator, and NRP Instructor. I have also taught classes to parents and healthcare providers. I have spent my career working with families and their babies and have learned so much from them.

What state do you reside in?

Ohio

When did you know you wanted to become an IBCLC?

Working in Obstetrics, I saw so many parents in need of education and support that it inspired me to become an IBCLC.

Why did you become an IBCLC?

I became an IBCLC to help parents reach THEIR goals.

What do you wish you could tell every parent (that they would actually do) and why?

I wish that when I remind a parent to breathe, they would. I see so many parents holding their breath, worrying, anxious, and fearful. They seem to feel as if they are not enough, when in fact, they are the best parent their baby could have.
